Austral has for some been addressing the issues of climate change as it relates to supermarket refrigeration.

Through our new case design and technology, and our ability to retro-fit environmentally sustainable parts in existing applications, we are able to reduce the impact of both rising emissions and rising electricity costs.

Our design teams are committed to continuous improvement, benefiting retailers through reduced running costs, both now and into the future, with an understanding that whilst retailers are seeking to not only reduce operating costs, but also to improve their environmental credentials by reducing their carbon footprint, an increasingly important consideration in everything we do.

Supermarket electricity consumption is approximately equivalent to the combined total of all residential lighting and refrigeration in many countries, and this is an area which has already been targeted by energy efficiency policy measures over recent years.

One of the major improvements in energy usage has been the introduction of low-energy LED lighting for display cases.

Austral has been leading the field in innovation with low-cost replacements for all product categories, including open cases and freezers.

Additionally, features such as Manual and Electric Night Blinds, Dual Air Curtain technology, Low Energy Fans and glass risers to avoid cold aisle air spillage, are now available as standard equipment in some models or as an option on Austral Showcases.
